Catherine Furnace near Chancellorsville, VA On the morning of May 3,1862 Confederate General "Stonewall" Jackson directs Brigadier General Robert Rodes to take the route Major Jedediah Hotchkiss had learned aboutr from Col. Wofford, owner of Catherine Furnace. The new road around the Federal army's right flank had been built by Col. Wofford for his iron furnace. This road gave the Confederate 2nd Corps the complete surpise and victory over the Federal army located around Chancellorsville.
